The Aisling Community Access Programme
The Aisling Community Access programme, under the remit of Corlann, was established in 2008 in Mayfield with one centre. There are now 5 Aisling community access programme centres around Cork City. The centre in Blackpool was established in 2021 and supports people with intellectual disabilities in all aspects of life and daily living, developing skills and participating in a wide range programmes and activities. One of the main focuses of the service is to enable individuals to participate fully in their local community. Working with different community groups is central to this. Aisling CAP have been working with Cork Community Art Link for over ten years and with the Blackpool group, since early 2021. This continued working relationship between the two groups, has left a remarkable impression on the participants and the artists in Cork Community Art Link. As a group CAP have collaborated on numerous Art link projects including many street spectacles such as the St Patricks Day Parade, Cork Midsummer Festival parade and the Dragon of Shandon Parade. In preparation for these events, the group attends weekly workshops to design and make prepare their own parade costumes and props. The group is currently collaborating with Ark Link on a creative garden project, in The Foyer Gardens, for the Blackpool Block Party on Sunday 23rd August.
