We're screening 'On The Waterfront' on Saturday 30th May at 6.30pm in the Blackpool Community, 90 Great William O'Brien Street, Cork.
Marlon Brando delivers a career-defining performance as Terry Malloy, a hardened prize-fighter turned longshoreman, in On the Waterfront, a landmark of urban storytelling. This raw, emotionally charged drama explores personal failure and systemic corruption as Terry faces a mounting moral dilemma, stay loyal to the mob-linked union boss Johnny Friendly (Lee J. Cobb) and his own brother Charley (Rod Steiger), or break ranks as authorities tighten their grip. Driven by the strikingly realistic direction of Elia Kazan and sharpened by the gritty, street-smart writing of Budd Schulberg, the film became an immediate cultural touchstone. It went on to win eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Screenplay.
