HOSTING

shandon dragon hosting service ●

As part of the 20th anniversary of the Dragon of Shandon Samhain Parade, we're developing a hosting initiative for visiting participants. Each year, artists, volunteers, makers and collaborators travel to Cork to take part in the workshops, rehearsals and parade. Some stay for a few days, others for longer periods throughout October. With short-term accommodation becoming increasingly difficult to find, we're looking at ways to support this through a shared, community-based approach.

What is the Shandon Dragon Hosting Service?
We want to connect people living in Cork with visiting participants involved in the parade. This would involve a host offering:
a spare room
a couch or sofa bed
a temporary sleeping space
access to shared kitchen and bathroom
Stays may range from a couple of nights to a few weeks, depending on availability and individual arrangements.

Who might stay?
Participants may include:
visiting artists and creative practitioners
volunteers and parade crew
trainees and exchange participants
returning Dragon participants
All participants are connected to Cork Community Art Link and involved in the parade project.

How it will work?
We are currently gathering expressions of interest. As plans develop, we expect to:
collect basic information from hosts
gather accommodation needs from participants
match people where suitable
introduce both sides and let them agree details
provide guidance and remain available for support

Support and contributions
Where possible, Cork Community Art Link will be able to offer a small contribution towards food or household costs. This will depend on available funding and will be discussed closer to the time with those involved.

A few important notes
This is intended as a short-term, community-based hosting arrangement rather than a rental system.
Final details such as schedules, expectations and house routines will be agreed directly between host and participant. We will continue to refine how this works and keep everyone informed as things progress.

Why this matters
Opening up homes, even for a short time, helps make it possible for people to travel to Cork, share skills and be part of the creative process. It supports exchange, collaboration and the kind of community spirit that has kept the Dragon going for 20 years.
